The M31 group of galaxies has got its own page

M77, NGC 1068
(900x661)

Old C8 + MX5 image

M77 (NGC 1068) in Cetus
Mag 8.9 - surf. br. 12.8 - size 7.3' x 6.3' - class Sbp
2005 Dec 25 (Denmark) - C8 @ f/6.3 - SXV-H9 - L:R:G:B = 28:8:8:8 min guided

M77 is a Seyfert galaxy having an active core. It is also called Cetus A for being the strongest radio source in Cetus. The galaxy has a very faint outer envelope that is faintly visible in this image.
The seeing was very poor causing rather large stars.

NGC 660
(900x664)

NGC 660 in Pisces
Mag 10.7 - surf. br. 14.6 - size 8.3' x 3.2' - class SBa/PRG
2005 Dec 25 (Denmark) - C8 @ f/6.3 - SXV-H9 - L = 72 min guided

A bizarre galaxy near M74. It belongs to a rare class of polar ring galaxies.

NGC7331
(900x673)

NGC 7331 in Pegasus
Mag 9,5 - surf. br. 13.3 - size 10.2' x 4.2' - class SBc
2005 Sep 25 - C8 @ f/6.3 - SXV-H9 - 70 min

A dusty galaxy in a field of several small galaxies

NGC 6946 in Cepheus/Cygnus
Mag 8,8 - surf. br. 13.8 - size 11.2' x 9.8' - class SBc
NGC6946
08 Aug/04 Sep 2004 - C8 at f/6.3 - SXV-H9 - LRGB 65:21:20:20 min

Big spiral galaxy on the Cepheus/Cygnus border. It would have been one of the showpieces in the sky had it not been for the fact that it is heavily obscured by dust in our own Milky Way. NGC6946 is a prolific supernova producer with no less than 6 recorded supernovae

Stephan's Quintet in Pegasus
NGC 7317, 7318A, 7318B, 7319 and 7320: Group of interacting galaxies
Stephan's
25 Aug 2003 (Vrigsted, DK) - C8 at f/6.3 - MX516 - 19 min

Famous group of distant galaxies. The lower left galaxy (NGC 7320) is a less distant foreground galaxy not related to the other interacting galaxies.

NGC 7479 in Pegasus
Mag 10.9 - surf.br. 13.4 - size 4.0' x 3.1' - class SBbc
Stephan's
27 Aug 2003 (Vrigsted, DK) - C8 at f/6.3 - MX516 - LRGB=26:13:10:10 min

NGC404
26 Oct 2003 - C8 @ f/6.3 - SXV-H9 - 12 min - bin 2x2

Small elliptical galaxy partly hidden in the glare from 2nd magnitude Mirach (beta Andromedae).

M74 (NGC 628) in Pisces
Mag 9,4 - surf. br. 14.2 - size 10.0' x 9.4' - class Sc
M74
26 Oct 2003 - C8 @ f/6.3 - SXV-H9 - 46 min - bin 2x2

Classical grand design spiral galaxy. It has produced two supernovae within the last couple of years, SN2002ap and SN2003gd. The latter is still faintly visible in this image.

NGC 891 in Andromeda

NGC891
2003 Dec 17 - C8 @ f/6.3 - SXV-H9 - 30 min - bin 2x2

Large edge-on spiral galaxy.
