Planetary Nebulae - Summer

NGC7048
(640 x 480)

NGC 7048 in Cygnus
Magnitude 12.1 - Size 1.0' - central star mag 18.3

13 Sep 2005 - C8 @ f/6.3 - SXV-H9 auto-guided
LRGB = 38:16:12:16 min (L = Astronomik CLS)

Nice planetary not far from NGC 7000

M57 Ring Nebula
(900 x 700)

Enlarged 150% (900 x 700)

M57, The Ring Nebula in Lyra
Magnitude 9.4 - Size 1.4' x 1.0' - central star mag 15.8

03 Aug / 08 Sep 2005 - C8 @ f/10 (L) / f/6.3 (RGB) - SXV-H9 auto-guided
LRGB = 25:8:10:21 min (L = Astronomik CLS)

Pretty good seeing but mount was acting up. Did get some good exposures, however

M27 (Dumbbell Nebula)
(900 x 675)

Full size (1203 x 906)

M27 (Dumbbell Nebula) in Vulpecula
Magnitude 7,6 - Size 8,0' x 5,7' - central star mag 13.9

29 Sep 2004 - C8 at f/6.3 - SXV-H9
L:R:G:B = 26:12:11:12 min (L = CLS - RGB binned 2x2)

The brightest planetary around, and one of the biggest as well. The luminance was shot one day after Full Moon! The colour exposures are from begin September but then the seeing was too poor for a high resolution luminance shot.

Older MX516 images: 18 Jul 2003

M57, The Ring Nebula in Lyra
Magnitude 9,4 - Size 1,4' x 1,0' - central star mag 15,8
M57, Ring Nebula
07 July 2003 - C8 at f/10 - MX516 - L = 14 min (high res mode) - R:G:B = 3:2,5:2 min (C8 at f/6.3 in May 2002)

Famous planetary nebula (and the first ever deep sky object I observed with a telescope). This image was made in a humid summer night with excellent seeing but poor transparency. The colours were created from exposures made during my holiday to Puimichel in 2002. Old image from May 2002 in Puimichel

NGC 6543 (Cat's Eye Nebula) in Draco
Magnitude 8,3 - Size 22" x 16"
NGC 6543
07 July 2003 - C8-DX at f/10 - MX516 - 5 min in high res mode - max entropy deconv.

This small but bright planetary is located almost exacly at the ecliptic north pole

NGC 6826 (Blinking Nebula) in Cygnus
Magnitude 8,8 - Size 27" x 24"
NGC 6826
28 June 2003 - C8-DX at f/10 - MX516 - 3.5 min (high res mode) - max entropy deconv.

Very bright planetary famous for making tricks with the eye. The nebula "disappears" when looking directly at the central star while it magically reappears when using averted vision.

NGC 6781 in Aquila
Magnitude 11.8 - Size 1.8' - central star mag 15.0
NGC 6781
18 Jul 2003 - C8 at f/6.3 - MX516 - L:R:G:B = 15:7:6:6 min

Beautiful planetary in the Eagle but not so bright

NGC 7008 in Cygnus
Magnitude 13.3 - Size 1.4'
NGC 7008
28 June 2003 (RGB 15 Jul 2003) - C8-DX at f/10 (RGB f/6.3) - MX516 - LRGB = 13.5:7:6:6 min
